My registry became corrupted when I did not heed some warnings while installing some Win98 era software onto my WinXP Pro, SP2 OS. Error message is,"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \Windows\System32\Config\System." I cannot access the Recovery Console Tool because my system is configured with an "Onboard Promise 2+0 Stripe IDE as RAID." Also on setup,...,"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer., and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue...." The Fast Build Utility 2.00, 2002-2005 Promise Tecnology Bootable Array shows Array No.1 RAID mode is Stripe with 2 Total Drives with MB Capacity of 160052 and the Statis is FUNCTIONAL. I have the drivers and when I try to reinstall and reboot it just goes back to the same error message. Also on POST, a message that the Master Boot Record cannot be located.
System includes MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R RT, MS-6758(v1.1) ATX Mainboar; Intel P4 266 Ghz 533 Mhz FSB CPU; two Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM EIDE Hard Drives; ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mb 8xAGP; Corsair DDR 2x256Mb Twinx512-3200 LLPTCOR RT memory; Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card; and CD-RW and DVD-RW burners.
I have fairly recent hard copy backups but would prefer to fix the problem, if possible. If not possible, any suggestions on how to access to reformat? Any suggestions are appreciated.
