Messed up CD-ROM drive

My CD-ROM drive seems kind of messed up. It just won't open. I press the button to eject but it won't open. Then I restart it and it opens. Then the next day again it won't open. I restart the computer and it still won't open.

I restart the computer and it still won't open. So now I'm stuck with a closed CD-Rom drive. Is it because it's kinda hot so it won't open or something cause I don't know whats wrong.

Do you have a cd rom or cdrw drive? Are you running Windows XP?

was aboutt o say, often in XP when u burn a cd and it fails, XP thinks the drive is in use (thx ATAPI!) and it won't open the drive until you reboot.

Does this only happen with certain cd's? or even with no cd's left in it it happens?

No this is just a normal CD-ROM reader only nothing else. But for some reason sometimes it opens and sometimes it doesn't know why?

One more thing it just happens anytime but I think it happens when there is no CD in the driver. Cause after I finish playing a game on CD I take it out then I close it. Then I feel like playing something else but it didn't open so yea.

I'm having that same problem with my CD-ROM drive atm. In my case it's cause by the mechanism which clamps the CD to the spindle becoming jammed up somehow (I think its over magnetised but I'm not sure). I have to open through a combination of pressing the eject button and jamming a bent paper clip into the manual eject hole its gotten so bad now. Unfortunately, I know of no way to fix it short of replacing the entire drive. If anyone has an idea though, I'm open to suggestions.

Why not use FileSearching.com and search for Eject.zip or something like that because there are utitlities that will eject, lock, and close your drive from either Dos or Win32 Console (that is some only work in windows). Good Luck,
