microsoft direct music synth
back in win95 there was a patch for midi, it was a microsoft software synthesizer, and it was free it is now called direct music, i think. but anyway, you could install it as a driver, then play doom95 with very decent midi sound.

i have 2000, the website for the 95 patch is no longer at microsoft's website
and i want to reenable it.
if anyone knows how to correctly register the dlls to play it tell me
(i dont want a midi player i want a midi driver!!!)
and also dont waste space saying to get a soundblaster live or what not
im not spending 200$ for midi, that defeats the purpose, since its already incorporated into microsofts OS
and wingroove is a cheaper way to try a software synthesizer,
i already have it, dont use it.
ps here is a tutorial to check it if you dont believe me
start--run--dxdiag--music tab
test using this port "Microsoft Synthesizer"
also WINAMP2 has in the input options support for this too
do not get confused with microsoft gs wavetable sw synth.
it is not the same thing
compare the midi playback between this and the other options
in dxdiag to see the difference in quality
