Microsoft Lisencing
This is a discussion about Microsoft Lisencing in the Slack Space category; I recently ordered a replacement cd for my Office XP pro. I finally got it in and they gave me a new key with it. What I don't understand, I used my old key to install it before I realized I had a new one.

So now Do I have an extra Lisence?

1 paper license=1 license (if stated as such)
if it were only that easy huh?
(the way cd's are mass produced it's not possible to code everyone with a different code.)

But technically I can install office with the other supplies key on a new machine and register it.
So I have 2 copies. One that has been activated and 1 I can still activate if I choose too.
Is that illegal?

Technically yes, legally no.
The CD Key is not your license, the license is that little piece of paper you got inside your box or the inlay card of an OEM copy - as said above, one paper Office XP license = 2 legal installations, one laptop, one desktop.

Yeah I used it for my laptop and my desktop. I just wondering why they supplied a new key.
Probably because you asked for a replacement CD. For all they know, you may have lost the case with the key on it as well.
OP
Maybe so. I was hoping they were being generous, but oh well. Don't have a third machine anyway
