Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro

Yes I know it's an old joystick but I don't have the money for a new one but anyway my question is why doesn't Windows 2000 Pro detect it? I went to gaming options in control panel and installed it from there but then it says Not Connected so what could be the problem? My sound card is Sound Blaster Live!

Are you using ServicePack 3? I ask because I have an old SideWinder GamePad and 2000 systems with SP3 installed misdetect it as the 3DPro. However, on SP2 on two different systems the gamepad works fine, I think M$ broke sidewinder support in SP3 for older devices and has failed to patch it yet.
