Microsoft.NET
This is a discussion about Microsoft.NET in the Windows Software category; I've been asked if it is necessary for the average computer user to have. NET (any of the versions) on their computer. If they are not intending to code anything. What do you guys think?.

As well as Visual Studio, many programs and some drivers use the .NET Framework including Paint .NET, ATI drivers, and various other apps using .NET.

Thanks for the quick response Peter.
I also beleive the latest nVidia drivers also require .NET to be installed.
It is becoming more common-place to have .NET apps now and of course they usually require at least .NET v1 or v2 to be installed
Also note that there are now patches and SP's for these code bases too, be sure the user/users go back to the WindowsUpdate page and check for any new security patches after the initial install.
