More Ram ?????
This is a discussion about More Ram ????? in the Customization Tweaking category; I have 256 megs of ram. Is there a significant increase in perfomance if I was to add an extra 128 megs or would it remain the same. Ive heard that there is a point were more ram will not help the speed of your computer, what would that point be.

more ram would decrease the hard drive activity
I haven't noticed an speed increase with over 384MB of RAM. However, it all depends on what you're doing and other hardware too, specifically the speed of your hard drive.
As Brian said, it depends on the speed of your hard drive (for virtual memory) - but it also depends on what you're using your PC for. I don't think games benefit from large amounts of memory, but if you're using memory-hungry apps like PhotoShop, then the more memory the better!!

I say go for it... I recently added another 256meg stick to my system. It's sick how little my hard drive gets accessed during boot
I paid $46 for name brand memory a few weeks ago, it's down to $40 now. The generic stuff only costs $30/stick! With prices this low, you can't afford NOT to buy RAM!

Well your right.ram is cheep. I just picked up 128 PC 133 for 39 dollars canadian, regular price 55 dollars. Last time I bought ram I had to sell a kidney.
But I don't belive I have noticed any speed differance on my system.
But at that price who cares, it will be a help with my Cad programs im sure.
