NDIS Proxy, what is it?

Can anyone tell me what the NDIS Proxy driver (ndproxy. sys) does please? I checked the MS knowledge site and didn't understand a word of it. Whilst tweaking my system I disabled this driver. . . however when i replaced the registry entries for this service from an XP Home machine to reacrivate it.

Can anyone tell me what the NDIS Proxy driver (ndproxy.sys) does please? I checked the MS knowledge site and didn't understand a word of it.

Whilst tweaking my system I disabled this driver... however when i replaced the registry entries for this service from an XP Home machine to reacrivate it... it starts (according to msinfo32) but device mananger shows it with a yellow exclaimation mark and the follow error:

This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)

It is currently set to start on demand. Can anyone tell me if there will be any ill effect of uninstalling this driver? Or if so then how can i re-install it?

Thanks

ndproxy.sys is a ppp wrapper for ATM. It is the central driver for running residential dsl (as the above link states) over ppp. I speculate its a component of LANE (local area network emulation ..... without going through my MSDN CDs).

Since ATM hasnt been widely distributed for the SOHO user ..... even for most users .... this standard seems to have slowly died down .... I wouldnt worry too much about the driver. If you want to reinstall it .... reinstall SP1.
