Hi team.
I'd like to get a web based business off the ground. I'm weighing up the options of leasing server space, or building my own.
I'd like as many pointers as possible on a system that will be able to accomidate the following.
It has to be scaleable.
Obviously it needs to be reliable, with absolutely minimal downtime.
It's not out of the question to suggest multiple servers.
It will need to be able to accomidate anywhere up to 20,000 users initially.
The primary function of this system will be to offer customers the ability to create and manage profile accounts and send email to each other.
It will also need to be able to offer SSL connections for online payments to a local bank account.
I'm a bit of a noob with this sort of thing, so outlay as much as you feel like contributing.
- What hardware, what OS, pitfalls, additional software, bandwidth, manufacturers etc.
Cheers guys and girls.
