1st don't double post.
 
Try installing chipset drivers for your mobo.
Remove all the previous drivers if you had a non ati gpu.

Ah sorry about that, i didnt mean to post twice.
 
Ive installed my chipset drivers and the previous drivers got deleated when i reformatted, im getting really worried that my graphics card has screwed up

Downgrade your vidcrad drivers, along with your VIA chipset drivers. Having the latest drivers can sometimes toss a wrench into the gears when using older hardware.
 
Get the http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=753 drivers, worked for me a while back. Currently, I'm using the 77.77 drivers, and they are working fine with my ti4200.
 
Possibly, your MX 440 needs the older drivers to work. If you are currently using VIA's 5.04A drivers, try downgrading them to the 4.56v drivers.
