ok. heres the thing. ive got this network card in my computer im using to share the connection with another computer upstairs. prior to sp2 its been working perfectly fine. there have been a few times it would either up and remove itself from the computer on its own (wouldnt show in the device manager or network connections) or it just wouldnt make a connection with the second computer, but that was easily fixed by either scanning for new hardware or restarting. the network card is the belkin f5d5000. prior to sp2 the only driver that worked was the realtek rtl8139 driver which was signed. the f5d5000 drive was not signed and did not work (said device cannot start). now with sp2 installed, the realtek driver doesnt work (says device cannot start), but the f5d5000 apparently works fine. but, the biggest issue here is it wont make a connection. it just says the cable is unplugged. but the light on the card saying its connected is on and the same goes for the computer upstairs. the upstairs computer is using an older card. all i know is its capable of just 10mbit and its got the old style coax connector on it as well as the cat5 jack. windows 2000 is running on it and it reads the network card as being another realtek (dont remember the model offhand).

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked to see if Belkin offers a newer driver (newer by either version or date) than the one you have installed?

That would be the 1st thing to try.
