Network icon and all network protocoll gone

Help! have a laptop with built in network card, Win2000 Pro. It has suddenly lost the network, network icon and protocolls. Network card functioning. How do I reinstall the network in Win2000, without having to reinstall the whole operative sys? Thanks, Amber F.

Using the win2k cd, just goto control panel, system, hardware wizard and install the required settings back onto your laptop, also try re-installing the drivers for your notebooks nic. Then, hopefully the network neighborhood icon is there and install the required services. Hope that helps, i really dont have any exp w/ laptops
