new USB2 card does not appear in device manager

This is a discussion about new USB2 card does not appear in device manager in the Windows Hardware category; I have plugged in a new USB2 card to an old gigabyte motherboard (2001) and flashed the bios and got windows right up to date. The device does not appear in the device manager. Does that mean the problem is with the motherboard? What do I check? Thanks.

You may want to post the model number of the motherboard, as well as the make and model number of the USB card (if it is not one of thoes "generic" models) to help folks answer your question better.
