Now, THIS is why I don't use "Instant Messaging" apps

Personally I use MSN Messenger, and I've found a super-easy way to remove the banner ad at the bottom of the contact list window, without the use of any 3rd-party programs. First, locate the following file: %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\links.

First, locate the following file:

%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\links.txt

Open that file, and delete all the contents. As soon as you do so, mark the file as 'Read Only'.

Open/reopen the main MSN Messenger window, banner ads gone!

About the privacy, I have the option to block everyone that is not explicitly on my approved contact list enabled.
