NTFS version question

This is a discussion about NTFS version question in the Windows Hardware category; ok after having more problems with fat32, it was time to convert to NTFS. I converted all my partitions to NTFS , just leaved a small one to be able to reach from dos. But problem is I converted while I was on RC1 so now my partitions are Beta NTFS 5.

But problem is I converted while I was on RC1
so now my partitions are Beta NTFS 5.1
I have all my important data on those partitions,
should I convert them to win2000 version NTFS
and how can I ?
also do u thing at final version of XP, may NTFS version would change too ? and if how can I concert NTFS to a different version of NTFS
I just don't trust partition magic on XP

Well, you could pull your drive(s) from the XP machine and do the conversion with partition magic from another computer (say, Windows 2000). Of course, I'm not sure that partition magic can even do that kind of conversion, anyway. Looking at it right now, I'm 99% sure there's no way to convert from NTFS 5.1 to NTFS 5.0 or 4.X. In fact, for some reason it won't even allow me to convert back to FAT32. But then, I haven't looked at PowerQuest's site for a while. They might have a patch or something for PM6.

Partition Magic Pro 6.01 works fine with what you need to do.

Do not use PM, best solution would be to backup your data to some sort of medium wipe the file system and recreate it on w2k. PM tends to try making you dependent on itself. You use it once you have to low level format the drive to get rid of it.

And there is no patrch on powerquest's site

Wink2 can read/write to a NTFS5.1 partition, no need to do change anything.

Well straight to the point. Tobby is absolutely right!
Why go into all the trouble.
Wait until your Hdd's crash then you can restructure them

OP
aghhh, I'm totally confused, ntfs 5.1 or 5 it's ok
but bill is tring to suffer us while watching divx,
with bsplayer or media player , divx quality is worse than 9x or 2000
so I have to keep my dual boot with winme, so I have to convert them back to fat32 again ((
