1) Depends on game.
2) I like more offline games than online games.
3) Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (Note to self: get a new gfx card...).
4) Monthly fees on some, wow, online games. Because of it, I will never buy it or any other similiar to it.
I prefer to buy game one time.

1: I very rarely like to play online games i just don't like the attitude. Online is with a bunch of people you dont know and while you can meet new people its not my favorite situation.

2: I pretty much play offline games, it is very rare i play online (enemy-territory primarily).

3: Popular games Windows its always changing, in MMO guild war, WOW, city hero/villanm,everquest, dungeons and dragons Battlefield 2.
Linux UT2004, Quake 4, Doom 3, Never Winter Nights, Etc.

4: Online as stated attitude when i go on more often than not im not playing seriously i just want to relax im not working to impress, and you may get messages like you suxors, or i ownz you, or the your mama statement. The attitude isn't that fun to play in. Local or just me i like that i can just relax and not let my guard down without remarks being made. Do i like to play games with other people, yeah mostly friends, i havent had a lan party but that is what i would probaly prefer.

1) I enjoy online gameplay, largely dependant on the game I am playing. Examples: World of Warcraft I cannot stand. To me, it seems the level of comprehension and thinking it takes to play a game, is directly related to the level of maturity and attitude of the game players. WoW seems to be alot of (dare I say) younger players (I am 19 so I am a young player too) that tend to beg alot more than EverQuest (the other MMORPG I have played) and the groups often dont work out due to people getting frustrated and leaving, not having enough patience to stick it out.
2) I also love offline games (depending on the game) for example: Halo2 parties are common in the dorms and are tons of fun, along with Mariokart and I love playing Fable and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion offline obviously.
3) Popular games: WoW (easy and entertaining for all ages), Guild Wars (Largely because it is free, not because it has stellar gameplay) EverQuest 1&2 (Not played 2, but 1 is very captivating and community oriented) City of Heroes/Villians (Fairly easy and fast paced) Halo2 (Kill your friends! Prove your dominance )
4) I dislike playing sports games online, due to people being really cocky and immature. I also dont like playing glitchy games online, unless people dont cheat. (which rarely happens)

Good luck with your paper!

1&2- I play about equal amount of each. sometimes you need to put on the surround headphones and dim the lights to f.e.a.r., or pick up the ps-style controller and play san andreas. ww-2 flight simulators (s.w.o.n.) and the like are always fun.
Sometimes you need to pick a side and plant/diffuse the bomb in CS2. Or go crazy in Battlefield 2. classic Zero Hour...Half-Life 2...aliens man...f'in crazy.
3- see above
4- paying is annoying. why pay monthly? what a jip. something like Steam is ok...buy once, play on their servers forever, get free mods AND you get a variety of older games to choose from from the door.
what really pisses me off is noob 12year olds with admin priviledges you get for an extra 10 bucks. check this out I was playing bf2 and the guy gets outta his tank. i get in. then he sez to give it back or ill be booted. i told him where to go, and that i would take care of him should he try. sure enough he booted me. sure enough he was banned from the biggest servers within a day:-D
it sure helps to have online-gaming friends!
Good luck with the research.
