Outlook Calendar - Share on network drive?
I have a client at a small office that I am working for as network administrator that needs to share their calendar among others in the office. They use Microsoft Outlook XP. Is it possible to do this? And how is it done? I need to get the file that is associated with the Outlook Calendar and place it on the server ...

I'd appreciate any helpful assistance.
Thank you very much.

Nope, had a thread exactly same a week ago....
For your info,
all outlook info is kept in a pst file, and you can seperate the calendat and keep it in a different pst file and share it over the network but then only one user can access it simultaneously.
There is asmall SW package that does it but it is sold for about $80 and works via e-maili. So it is no good either and with that cost you might as well get Exchange.
For the immediate solution, have them right click on the item they wish to share and send it to the others via e-mail forward
Let me know if you find any other solution.
I also thought about batch synch with a batch file or script but decided aginst it since you can only have one master to do that.

Well actually that might work, I don't think anyone would need to access it simultaneously. How exactly do you extract the calendar part to its' own file?
How much would an Exchange server cost about?
Thank you for your response. I find it extremely helpful.

The odds of users hitting the calendar at the same time are much greater than you would think, and the cost of Exchange server can be found on pricewatch.com (or major vendors), but I got ours at www.coast2coastaz.com for much less than normal retail.
Well the problem is not hitting the calendar... If one copy of outlook is running, another one won't start...
How you seperate it, just create a new pst file on a network shared folder, and move the calendar, contacts etc (or copy) from inside the outlook. If batch update is fine, go for it, just copy it over the network and tell them this one is the master etc....

It basically repeats what i wrote earlier.
BTW Exchange for 5 user retails around $1000. I am going to try iplanet next week. It is free and it is Sun! I dunno exactly how the directory services module works any info on that would be appreciated. I read the technicals don't bother with that. But info about directory services and Office will be welcome.

I'm sorry, the link you posted proves that MS are a bunch of arseholes how exactly?
My apologies if you are working in the Microsoft or such, i meant the marketing people in a way. What we are trying to do was possible on olutlook 2000 which came with office 2000. However now they have removed this capability and forcing you to purchase an exchange server to do that (share contacts, calendar items etc.)
I do not think it is fair to ask for $350 +Vat per seat for an application and then say hey you need to pay another $900-1000 if you wanna work together. And this is not even including the cost of the server software exchange will reside on.
Maybe i am temporarily insane after the fight we had with the license control guys here. I have showed them all the licenses (there was more licenses than computers) and they wanted to have admin access to my systems to see what we had. When i refused they started getting nasty and talking about fines. I had them ejected from the building with the police and i am also suing their asses on monday.
I am just pissed that we pay so much for the stuff and we don't get the bang for our bucks! Unlike uncle bill, i don't have billions which i pick out of tree's. I work and worked verry hard for all of them (18 hours a day) and believe we should be treated as at least valued customer not potential criminals. In case of my customers. What if he is missing a single OS or Office or some other thing license, does he have the rest of them. Do they think those guys are gonna risk it after having paid for 50 or in some cases 200 licenses prior? They can do a warning since it is obvious it was not intentional and will be discovered on the next inventory and corrected immediality. But no they gotta go and start hassling people about it all the time. then they go and start talking about how an OEM OS or software does not really belong to you despite you paid $300-400 on top of the PC's price and you have to buy a new one with your next computer etc.
Aren't you guys seeing those day to day? Did we get so ignorant that we just don't care anymore?
Sorry BladeRunner, i am just so pissed off right now. If teher is any offense to you or any member of the board in this post. it was not intentional and i trully am sorry.

After going here, I can't figure out how you found it for free. Where do you see it listed for free at? If you could, please post a link showing Sun giving it away and I might consider setting up one of these boxes to play with.
