Right click desktop>properties>advanced. Troubleshooting tab> slide the bar al the way up. Reboot.
Run DXdiag. Under display click to : ENABLE" all the acceleration.
 
This wil do it.

Lets pretend for a moment we've done all that and we still get a white square where the video should be. How would one go about fixing that?

I think I may have found the answer. If you install powerdvd you must disable the power dvd video filters with this app then reboot.
