I have two computers running win xp pro. One of them has the printer plugged in on usb (hp laserjet 1000), and i want to use it on the other computer. However, when i install the printer to the client (which is not connected to the computer), it seems to install correctly, it shows up in the network, but when i open it up, it show like it was plugged on the usb001 port. I know it is not, it should read \\scihum5\lj1000, how come? Also, when i install it on a win98 client, it works fine?

Are you using simple file sharing?
 
DId the printer auto share itself?

Do you let the drivers install automatically at the client workstation or do you install a driver suite provided by the manufacturer?
 
 
My HP won't work right with default drivers. I have to install it manually on XP to get it right.
