Privateer2 (OLD)

I tried to play Privateer2 but it requires VESA. I tried loading my old vvesa. com that I used before but it did not work. Is there some Win2k vesa driver or emulator for it that would get the game to work?.

What video card do you have? Sometimes using COMMAND rather than CMD (or vice-versa) and running it full-screen (Alt-Enter) before running the program can fix the problem. It works here on my GeForce DDR.

Check http://www.scitechsoft.com/index.html.

They developed univbe a long time ago for Vesa compatibility in Dos.

I doubt very much that their SciTech Display Doctor would work in Win2K. It was designed for Win95, Win98 and Dos. It is worth a try.

have you ever played wing commander 4? if not shame on you! either way, it was made around the same time as privateer 2 and uses a smiliar (if not the same) game engine. however, in WC4 they added direct sound support for windows 95 (and up) with a small patch. with privateer, they did not for some reason. they released a "deluxe edition".

once you have direct sound enabled (use that web site;) the game actually runs with very little problems. i'm running it on winXP with no problems at all. well, ok i lied. one problem: without MIDI support. that means that there is no background music while in flight (actually its a good thing...that MIDI music gets irritating...). the speed patch ffixes any speed problems you'll have. for some reason it won't work while in the nav map. but that's ok, it makes no difference really.

hope that helps you, but you do need to have some kind of a full copy of the game weather it be the original or not.

oh, one final thing: for some reason i got thhe european version here in canada...don't ask. if you have that, it is very buggy. the patch will fix any issues. you may have to hunt for it. i think super-geek site www.wcnews.com has it. you know if you have the european version if it did not come with a map in the box.
