When i delete a file i hold <shift>+<del> i get that confirm message.

this must be some sort of bug.

When I reboot these files are gone after reboot.
Is there a fix?
or is it a known bug?
Anyone else having this problem?

The files have gone b4 rebooIts because you shift-deleted them in the left window pane of explorer.

E.g.
Say you wanted to delete c:\temp\me.jpg

Expand your C: drive on the left.
Click on the temp folder so that you can see me.jpg in the right window of explorer. When you shift delete the file now, it will disappear.

If you deleted this file on the left, explorer refreshes but because you have the file highlighted it says the file is in use even tho it's gone.
To prove it has deleted just open up another folder and press F5. Then go back into the folder you were deleteing from, et voila.

But the problem is, is that when i return to that folder...it hasn't disappeared.

Also i'm not using the "Explorer" dual frame windows..just a single frame window.

i also have an idea..

if ur deleting files from say... Windows\System\*.dll or some other system files...

windows has a hidden directory call dll_cache (or something like that)

when u delete a System file, say... openGL.dll
it'll be gone, but when u refresh it, it's back cuz windows restores it from the hidden directory. Either overwrite it in the hidden directory, or delet it from there.

Another thing is... this directory REMAINS hidden even if u have 'show hidden directory'
the reason for this is because it holds the stability of the NT system because it doesn't allow other programs/users to overwrite the NT dll file.

Hope this helps..

I have the exact same problem.

It seems to occur in any directory, but not all the time. It does seem to occur more often if there are lots of files in the directory (>1000) but I have also had it happen with as few as 100.

Ancker, what motherboard are you using? I have a Asus A7V and I am running my HDs off the onboard Promise controller. I am wondering if this is a problem with the drivers for the controller.

Hmm, our systems seem quite different.

Asus A7V133 (has Promise FastTrak 100 lite onboard hd controller)
AMD Thunderbird 1.4Ghz
512 MB SDRAM
ATI Radeon 32DDR
hd1: 10GB FAT32
hd2: 30GB NTFS (System)
hd3: 60GB NTFS
Adaptec AHA-2940W/2940UW SCSI card
Pioneer 40x SCSI CD
US Sertek 36x CD
Plextor 12x10x32x EIDE
Sound Blaster Live! Full
3Com 10/100 network

hd1+hd2 are different partitions of the same drive
hd3 is two 30GB IBM drives in a RAID configuration

The only common points I see are:

The SCSI card - Should not be an issue

The CD-Writer - Should not be an issue

The SB Live - I considered this an issue because of problems it reported had with VIA Athlon chipsets, but your configuration is Intel based and shows the problem.

The amount of HD space - We both have fairly large amounts of HD space, but not so much that this problem should not have been encountered before if it is related.

Last night I downloaded the newest version of the FastTrak 100 drivers, and in the limited testing I did I never encountered the problem. I will play around with it some more tonight and see if this fixed the problem.
