Ok, please don't take this wrong, but are the speakers plugged in to the same port as before? If you have powered speakers, are they plugged in and turned on?
OP
yup. i checked everything over & over. plugged into the same port, plugged in correctly into themselves, etc. the weird thing is, i was playing a game 2 days ago & the sound worked, but then i quit & the sound no longer worked. i don't get it.
So the last time you had sound working was when you were playing a game a few days ago, right? Ok, was this before or after you moved your computer? What operating system do you have, and which game was it you were playing? Hopefully narrowing down the problem here...
Try plugging in a headset and see if yer speakers are the prob.
OP
after i moved it. some game (dinksmallwood or something) i got off the net. sound didn't work before or after. i'll try the headphone idea

have you looked in the device manager or the event veiwer?
Look in your volume control, make sure none are checked off as "muted" or the volume bar all the way down....
