Hi, I am newbie and I've got problem with Starcraft on Windows XP Professional.
When I insert Starcraft CD into CD-ROM, auto-play doesn't
work niether does Open. However, I tried installing Starcraft
on my other computer with Windows 95 and it works perfectly.
And you don't have to bother, it isn't CD-ROM's fault because
other CDs worked fine on WinXP. I suppose patch is needed
or something. If it is please somebody tell me where I can get
it because I searched through whole net and if it's something
else then somebody please tell me.
Thanks

It sounds like your relying on Autoplay for some odd reason (Big no no, especially for older games), Have you tried running the setup.exe from the CD?

OP
You didn't read my post carefully. I said CD
can't Open (Starcraft Icon is shown but I can't
Open CD so niether Auto-Play can start niether
can I run Setup.Exe or Install.Exe. Of course I tried
doing that in first place.)

Here is the fix for the problem.

Close antivirus. ZoneLabs and a couple of other will prevent the install.

Follow the next steps carefully.

1. Either cold boot with disc in drive or hold shift after putting disc in to stop Autoplay.

2. Open My Computer. Right click the ROM drive starcraft is in and select "explore".

3. Go to Edit and choose "select all".

4. Make sure every item is highlighted and then choose copy.

5. Make new folder on harddrive. Paste copied items into folder.

6. From folder on harddrive, double click install.exe

7. Wait forever. Grab a drink. Retire. Write out your will.

8. After a while, the install window will open. Follow prompts.

Note: You will have to follow the same procedure to install brood war expansion.

STEP 9. Don't be a smartmouth to people who are trying to help by saying things like "You didn't read my post carefully" when the helper is reading hundreds of messages a day and is starting at square one. Your original post was not clear, nor does typing out that you did something mean that you did it correctly.

Ya i had the same problem when i reinstalled windows xp pro.. i'd insert the disc and everything would freeze.. then i'd eject and everything would unfreeze.. try fixing your screen size nd stuff.. right click on desktop, settings, then click color quality 32 mgs. if that doesnt work try 16 megs.

Snoozemaster you need a new disk.. they only cost 5 bux now..

I recently started playing Starcraft II. Enjoyed it so much that I'm playing Starcraft I on an old XP machine I decided to install it on.

It wouldn't work right away though, of course lol, but thanks to the tips from justeatatfatjoes on this wonderful forum I am now up and running. Changing the color options, "got her done."

If anyone's having that kind of trouble, try justeatatfatjoes clever tip. Thanks dude, now I'm off to frag some Protoss.
