I can't get my Umax 2100U scanner to work with Windows.net 2003 server. I unplugged it and now every time I boot I get an error message that the service has failed to start, and this notice in the event log:
"The PV8630 WDM Device Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
I would like to either get it to work or get rid of the annoying error message; this service is not listed in the services list so it is hidden somewhere, I'd like to disable the error message until I can get the driver problem fixed.
Thanks for any help.

You have to enable the windows imaging service.

OP
That service is already enabled but it did not solve the problem.
Have you tried posting in microsoft.private.windows.netserver.general newsgroup?
What build/release of Windows Server 2003 do you have?

OP
I have the most recent build, 3718.
Agreed. Post in the private newgroup.
The microsoft.private.windows.netserver.general newgroup has tons of postings about scanners not working, I really don't think it's a driver issue, to be honest. Also, while I'm on that rant, you shouldn't use a server OS as a home OS; That's why unnecessary services, such as the Windows Imaging Service, Windows Audio Service, DirectX acceleration are disabled in Windows Server 2003.
However, on the chance that a bug is present, that's why I recommended to the original poster to follow up thru the proper channels; IE, the private newsgroup.
