Problems Getting a Visioneer Scan into PaperPort

Here's my problem: 1. I insert a sheet to be scanned into my Visioneer Strobe XP 200 scanner. 2. A scan window appears and the scan proceeds to the end. 3. The window freezes (cannot close it in any other way than using the Widows Task Manager.

Here's my problem:

2. A scan window appears and the scan proceeds to the end.

3. The window freezes (cannot close it in any other way than using the Widows Task Manager.

4. The scan never gets sent to PaperPort.

The details:

1. I recently purchased an iMac, installed a Boot Camp Partition with Windows XP SP3 and also installed Parallels for Mac v5. Everything is as current as can be for both OS's.

2. I installed PaperPort Deluxe version 8.20.1.311 and the Visioneer Strobe XP200 drivers. Yes, I know they're old, but I can't see up[censored] them for as little I use them. All was working well when installed on my old Dell XPS.

3. The Strobe XP 200 does appear in the "Scanners and Cameras" Control Panel.

4. I have confirmed in the Strobe XP 200 Properties window that Diagnostics "Test Scanner" works properly. That confirms there is communication between the computer and the scanner.

5. I have also confirmed in the Properties window the "Select an event: Paper In" event is set to start the One Touch Auto Scan program.

The missing link is between the scanner and PaperPort. I believe all is set properly, yet the scan will not go into PaperPort. Any light you can shed on this issue will be most appreciated.

Update!:

I have uninstalled the old driver and updated it with a newer
version. The scanner now does the scan, does NOT freeze up, sends it to
PaperPort which does now open, BUT, I now get a message that says "PaperPort
cannot import the file because it is either damaged or not in PaperPort format."

My guess is that it is not corrupted and that the file is not in the ".max"
format. In One Touch 4.0 properties with the PaperPort destination selected,
there are 5 options in the "Select Format" area: Bitmap, TIFF, JPEG, PDF & no
OCR. There is NO ".max" format available. I have no idea why, as this was always
the format used primarily with PaperPort. There does not seem to be any way to
use that format.

Another guess: I'm thinking that the updated driver, One Touch 4.0, may not be
compatible with PaperPort v8 software. That the newer software no longer uses
the .max format. What do you think?

I will probably try uninstalling the newer driver and reinstall a fresh copy of
the older driver. I'll be in touch!

The problem has been solved!

After uninstalling the newer driver and reinstalling the original the scanner came with, the problems have been solved. Apparently, the driver became damaged and simply needed to be reinstalled.

Interesting to note that up[censored] to a newer driver isn't always the best answer.

Thanks,
Ralph
