Having problems running Quake III Arena under Win2000 (worked ok under Win98). Trying to run in single-player mode. Select 'Fight'. I get the message "Loading Q3DM0, connecting to localhost. Press Esc to abort. Loading... Cells. Introduction, single player, Fraglimit 5". The game then freezes, and the only way I can get out of it is to reboot the pc.

Cinematics feature runs ok.
Demos run ok.

Other info...
AMD 1GHz., 128Mb RAM. 17Gb free on drive.
ATI Rage Fury XPert2000 pro32, driver 5.13.1.192
DirctX 8.0 (just upgraded from 7.0, but no improvement)
Using 640x480 resolution

The following may be a red-herring, but may be related...
DirectX 8 - all tests run ok except for "Test AGP Texturing", which produces a blank screen and freezes the pc.

Would upgrading to W2K SP1 do any good?

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA
Alan

Turn off AGP Texturing in dxdiag and see if it works then.

DosFreak, thanks for the reply.

Tried it, unfortunately to no avail. Quake still locks-up at the same place.

Out of interest, what does AGP texturing do? Will it do any harm to other games if I keep it disabled, or should I re-enable it?

Any further ideas would be appreciated.

Regards,
Alan
