This is a discussion about Quake3 and SMP in the Windows Games category; This subject is beat to death but new drivers come and so on. . . I have a creative Annihilator Pro and use the 5. 13 beta drivers. I only play in 1024 with everything maxed so I dont bother to test with anything else.

I have a creative Annihilator Pro and use the 5.13 beta drivers.
I only play in 1024 with everything maxed so I dont bother to test with anything else.
With SMP enabled the fps dropped approx 10fps in demo 1 and 2.
I have enough frames for two computers but I dont know what I should do. I read sometime that Carmack said that SMP helped in worst case scenarios (10people and massive blood) but since Q3 doesnt registers MAX and MIN fps Its kinda hard to figure out if the frames are higher in worst case scenarios.
I disabled SMP for now. The 10fps drop seemd a little much.
Any similar experinces?

hi ,well my scene was different,i,d never beeen able to try out smp,as the v3 3000 drivers dont surport it,but one day i built a pc for a friend for his vid card i got him a low cost tnt2m64[it was 90$ cheaper than a v3]so while i had it i thought i would check out smp in q3,i didn,t exspect it to work with the tnt2m64,i thought only the ultra surported smp, however when i downloaded the detonater 368 drivers [reference fromnividia] and put them in enabled smp it wo4rked ! and worked well, these are the figures i got

tnt2m64 32mb---r_smp,demo1 fastest settings no tweaks,75.6 fps

voodoo3 3000 16mb--no smp,demo1 fastest setings,no tweaks 52.2 fps
i tryed lots of other things 32 bit colourand textures etc,and for me smp was much better enabled,i would lose the creative drivers they are usually not very good, use the reference drivers ,let me know how it goes, also i was useing nt4,want to go to win2k but wanna make sure ut will run good first then i,ll get a geoforce,if i can get 75 fps from the tnt2m64,then the geforce will be awesome!seems tooo that the 368 detonater drivers work with many of the tnt cards maybe even smp with the 16mb,man thats what i call good customer service

I was just about to post a message regarding the fps drop when SMP is switched on. I am using Nvidia Reference Drive 5.14 Creative Annihilator Pro 32 Mb.

At first I got quite a few lockup when I try to benchmark with SMP turned on. I was curious as it never happen to me before when I run in single processor mode. Okay, I admit I did overclock my Geforce a bit but it was rock stable in single processor mode, but things get a bit picky when running in SMP mode. So I downclock my Geforce a bit. And it was stable, at least allow me to finish the whole benchmark. But FPS drop by 10 fps.
