Question on 2k and XP file sharing on a lan

Im having trouble getting a XP box and a 2k box to see each other on a lan. Both are connected to a hub which is connected to the cable modem and each has its own IP. Neither can see each other to share files.

Neither can see each other to share files. I've added Netbui, IPX etc. & both are on the same subnet.

The only differences settings wise is the last two numbers of the IP are different on the XP box ie 12.224.xxx.xx and the default gateway IP is different for the XP machine. Any ideas on how to get them to see each other?

TIA

- does ping work ?
- have you setup shares and users ?
- have you disabled the firewall ?

Yeah, I can ping both machines, users are setup ( I think ) and shares are setup. Neither machine is running a firewall.

Right Click on Network Places and choose Find computer. Then type the IP of the other computer in. If you are on the same range and running TCP you should see each other. Disable internet connection sharing and fire wall crapp on the xp machine. MAKE SURE that in the Services console they are stopped and/or disabled.
