Red Alert win95 version

Does anyone know how to get the win95 version of C&C Red Alert to work with Win2k ? I want to play with sound and in a higher resolution than 640x400. (if this is possible in DOS, fine, but please explain me how) Anyone ideas on this difficulty ?.

But can I get the win95 version to work ?
Dos is very low resolution only.
I want to play at least at 640x480.

Have you tried using APCompat? It's on the Win2k CD, and you can use it to try and fool the game into thinking it is running under Windows95.

It doesn't work for everything though, so it isn't a gauranteed success, but it's worth a try.

Here's how you do it. First you NEED the Aftermath or Counterstrike add-on (they provide a Windows NT compatible .exe file). You have to install the game in Windows 9x, install the add-on, and then you can run the game in Windows 2000. You will lose network support in the game though.

If you try to run Red Alert without the add-on installed it'll come up with a "This .exe is not a valid Win32 program" error. So you need the add-on.

I don't have aftermath or counterstrike
so I don't have the exe's.
(perhaps someone could mail them to
lordbrown@flashmail.com)
How unfortunate it is to lose network support
with the executables you mentioned, while
I want to play RA over a win2k network.
B.T.W.
I have tried apcompat.exe from microsoft
(the util to make an exe think win2k is
actually win 95), but this was no good.

to the proper place to be on the net
(some Red Alert Walhalla site)
Thanx

I just installed mine again and had absolutely no probs. First run the app compatible tool. Select Win98 from the compatibility options. Then hit the browse and go to the c&c cd and select setup under the win95 install directory. Then hit OK to run the tool. Now let it sit for a sec. The app compatibility tool will crash and you need to use ctrl-alt-delete and kill it. But after you kill it, c&c setup will start and run, no problem.

Setup is not the problem.
I can't get RA95.exe to work.
Win2k tells me:
'The procedure entry point SMapLS_IP_EBP_12
could not be located in the dynamic link
library KERNEL32.dll.'
It seems as if ra95.exe was designed to
run with win9x specifically.

You need to run apcompat on the setup.exe file inside the setup95 dir on the cd. After that you need to upgrade to version 1.08. I got this far and now I just get a black screen upon startup.
