Hello, im having some trouble running Resident Evil 2 on Windows xp
Im already aware of the problem where you have to put compatibility to win95, or else, your saved games won't load.
The problem im having is that the game is VERY slow. Im running a Athlon XP 2100+, 560mb DDR, Geforce TI 4600.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks in advance

Ive always experienced problems with games ported from PSX to PC, especially on WinXP.
Ive never played Resident Evil on PC, and i dont really intend to so i cant really help you there. The only thing i could suggest is going to the website to see if they have a patch, or search on the internet for a fix, patch, or a guide. Try googling for "Resident Evil Windows XP".
Hope i helped in any way.

There was a post in this forum here: http://ntcompatible.com/thread24999-1.html about running resident evil 3 (applicable also to 2).
I have the solution!!!!!
I hope it reaches any of you out there...
Open the game launcher and go to options.
under the SCREEN ADJUSTMENT tab look for DEVICE SETUP and select UNKNOWN CARD. It worked for me, i hope it works for any of you.
ALso if you can't load saved games (propably because you are running windows XP or above) try running the game in windows 95 compatibility mode, if you don't know how to, follow this link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;279792
I should add that the compatibility tab will only appear for SHORTCUTS, not for any EXECUTABLE files, so you must create a SHORTCUT in order to apply the compatibility mode.
This method works under windows XP and Windows 2000 running with service packs 2, 3, and 4.
if you are using the compatibility modes for resident evil 2 and the game screen is too small, just press F8 while in the game (i mean while playing, not while being in the menu screen) to change to the desired resolution thus to fullscreen, i also recommend setting your antialaising at its max in your video card settings...
well thats all, GOOD LUCK and Enjoy the game!

Im my case when I put in the so called compatibilty mode mode is an error regarding the program trying to write to a memory block when Im either to load or save files! Yet you can still play the game!
So if anybody has any solutions please let me know

I switched computers from a slow computer (400mHz) to a fast one (2.0 gHz). I have Windows XP with the Service Pack 2. I could not play my favorite game "Resident Evil 2 Platinum Edition" on it because the gameplay was slow. I found this site by Googling "Resident Evil 2 won't play on XP".
I saw the post about running Windows Media Player while running the game, I tried that and the game ran smoothly! So before you start the game, open WMP first. Now, about the Loading the saved Game:
I tried the compatibility issue by switching it to '95. It worked but the screen was too small, so I hit F8 and changed the Screen Resolution and the saved game loads without a hitch!
All of this with Service Pack 2 installed! So now I can play the game at Normal speed, 640x480 screen resolution and load saved games without a problem!
I gave up playing my favorite game on my PC until I found NT Compatible! Thanks guys for all of your input!

WARNING to those who use RE2 on WinXP. I installed RE2 on my PC. I set the compatibility to Win95. I left WMP open while I played the game. I exited the game and went to shut down the computer. THE COMPUTER WOULD NOT SHUT DOWN! It froze at the "Windows Is Now Shutting Down" page. I had to unplug the computer each time I had to shut down. I even tried restoring to a point before the RE2 installation.
No luck. I uninstalled RE2 and erased the Capcom Folder. The computer shut down normally after that.
My Computer Specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
Processor AMD Athlon XP 2400+
1.94GHz
384MB RAM

about loading saved games. I had a problem with loading it while I was running game with patch 1.04, i mean through leon.bat or claire.bat . without it it works normally. just try. but I don't know how to fix the problem with same name of all saves. i personnaly just save to 1 point or you can check it in explorer, order of files should be the same.
Hi,
I've now finally solved my loading save game issue (set savegame location to C:\Resident Evil 2), and have managed to get all the way through Leon A with no trouble!
However, now I've started to run through the B scenario as Claire, but the problem is that all the movie files seem to be those for Leon, and all the items are Leon's items - e.g. the shotgun is located on the main hall desk where the grenade launcher should be, and all the grenade rounds seem to have been replaced by shotgun rounds (although all the item locations seem to be right for Claire)
Trying to use these as Claire causes the game to crash. Anyone got an idea how to fix this? I can change the savegame hex file, but it would be a case of doing this everytime I save, or cheating and putting on infinite ammo (neither of which I really want to do....)

For all who have still the Problem with loading the savegames from Resident Evil 2 on Windows XP or Windows 2000
Make a small Partition 1-5 MB in FAT32 than put the Savegame Folder on the part that is in FAT32 Partition and Try to load it !
