Resident Evil 3 and Windows XP
This is a discussion about Resident Evil 3 and Windows XP in the Windows Games category; Hi I have the PC version of RE3. Problem is it won't work on my machine. I can install and run the game fine but when I attempt to start a new game from the main menu it hangs at the loading screen, the one that says 'Farewell to my life.
Hi
I have the PC version of RE3. Problem is it won't work on my machine. I can install and run the game fine but when I attempt to start a new game from the main menu it hangs at the loading screen, the one that says 'Farewell to my life. Farewell to my home.' etc. Then I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to reverse out of this mess.
Relevant specs:
Windows XP Home, Service Pack 1
GF4 with 40.72 Dets.
DirectX 9
I've tried the compatibility mode and various different video settings with no effect.
Anyone else encounter this problem or know of a remedy? Looking around the internet and this site it seems to be a problem exclusive to XP. I've yet to find any solid solutions.

No problem here.
XP no service pack
GF2MX 30.82
Directx 8.1
It could be the DX9 or the 40.xx detonators.

Hmm the exact same problem has been reported long before either of those drivers were released though. I'm at a total loss.

I've got the exact same problem at the same screen. Just freezes up on me.
I run Windows XP Professional (No Service Pack)
P4 2.66 Ghz
GF4 MX 440 64 MB DDR
512 RAM
DirectX 8.1
Weird thing is, I remember being able to get the game started one time. Then i uninstalled and reinstalled recently and now it just freezes at the same spot everytime. Guess I'm out of luck unless Capcom or whatever decides to address the issue (yeah right) =\

Similar problem here. I could install the game on my WinXP Pro machine, but after starting it up the controls won't respond.
Strangely, it works fine under Windows 2000.

Try doing this:
search your computer for Dxdiag, when you find it, run it, and go to the sound tab. lower the acceleration to basic and try running RE3. It worked perfectly that way for me. If it doesn't work, try lowering it to none
Capcom stated that there's an issue the way windows XP handles the sound hardware aceleration that makes the game freeze on the "farewell..." screen. They gave the solution i put above.

Thanks that worked a treat.
And it was something so simple, it's a shame the Eidos tech support are so unwilling to provide answers.
Finally I can play this game. 8)

Thank you Darth Striker...!!!
I'm running...
Windows XP sp2
Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
PNY Geforce 4 MX420 Video Graphics Card
Kept locking up on the 'Farewell to my life. Farewell to my home.' screen.
Lowering the acceleration to basic fixed my problem and now the game runs perfectly!
