Running Civ 2 on W2000

When I try to play I get the error in IR41.

Just discovered this site... hopefully it can help with some long term game problems
I'm trying to run Civ2 on windows 2000, and I have installed WinG and the Indeo drivers. When I try to play I get the error in IR41.dll message and I need to close the game.
I found another post on here about correcting this by deleting the IR41.dll but Civ2 just hangs and I need to kill it to unfreeze my machine!
Any ideas?

Rename ir41.dll (in C:\WINNT\System) to something else and it will run just fine.
