SB128 PCI CT4700 in Windows 2k?
Hello everybody, Does anybody know if it's possible to use a SoundBlaster 128 PCI (CT4700) in Windows 2000 (SP2). I tried all the 128-PCI drivers I could find, but none seems to work. . . Any solutions?.

What is the exact problem your having? I have the exact same model of SB PCI 128 under 2k SP2, with no problems, i just plugged it in and windows installed the default drivers and away it went!
Creative don't supply any updated drivers for this model as far as im aware, but the WDM defaults should work fine.

ditto here, the my brother's sb pci 128 still works in win2000. Chillout, remove all creative software (that is related to the soundcard), shut down your machine and remove the card. Next, try to reinstall the card.
After looking at Creative's support site ( http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/drivers/welcome.asp), i saw that the driver & applications set they have is dated 13/11/2000 and it weighs 14.5Mb...try it, unless you are on a dial-up connection.
A third idea: try windows update...if there is a driver for a creative soundcard, they definately have got it!

I have a SB PCI128 and the drivers are provided with Win2k. They aren't the best drivers but they do the job. But if the card is an onboard version, you may need special drivers because I have a friend who used to have an onboard PCI128 and Windows didn't pick it up.
Thanks, but this card doesn't work with the standard Windows 2000 WDM drivers... I do get a sound, but after some time it will start squeeking like a sick pig...

I have a simlar problem with the CT4700, try the following:
1. Reslot the card into a PCI slot on the MB that doesn't share ANY resorces with other system components (you can use msinfo32.exe to check). (PCI slot 5, on my VIA KT-133)
2. Disable the use of ACPI through the BIOS and windows setup.
3. Install George Breeze's PCI Latency patch (only for VIA mainboards though)
4. Disable v-sync in games and try turning the sound to low quality, e.g 11Khz.
All of the above reduced crackling/screaming, and increased performance and stability.

Squeaking, hmm never heard of that. My friend's onboard SB128 used to crackle constantly under windows 2000. We never found a solution but he ended up buying a SB Live 5.1. You might just have to bite the bullet and get a new card.
