Scratchy Glitchey sound after installing Half Life 2

This is a discussion about Scratchy Glitchey sound after installing Half Life 2 in the Everything New Technology category; My son just installed the game Half Life 2 on a new Gateway laptop. Up until he installed the game, the sound was fine but now it is scratchey or glitchey. Any ideas as to what is causing this and how to correct it.

What hardware specs do you have?
HL2 requires good fast hardware to play, a laptop may not be upto the job to play it smoothly...

If it is now "scratchy and glitchy" on even CD's or other Media software, it is possible that HF2 has made either a registry entry for its own driver and messed up your default driver, or it may have substituted one of its own drivers for your gateway driver. In that case, it might be best to restore XP to a configuration before the HF2 install.

If it is not interfering with the sound of your other media software, then peterh is probably right on the money.
