security updates, etc...?

just a question here, when you go to microsoft updates and get the patches etc. is it really necessary to reboot? or can a simple log out/log in work? i was just wondering since i just updated the system and i really don't want to reboot as i'm trying to see how long i can go without having windows crash on me, so ...

Basically, if you want some of the updates to work you will have to reboot. While some don't require the reboot, others do.
