Setting up a Network in XP

I am trying to Network in XP. Ok here is the setup Win2k = Comp2 WinXP= Comp1 Comp1 and 2 goes into my Linksys BEFSR41 router. Comp 2 locates Comp 1 less then a second. But however I have my printer and my cdrom for sharing, I keep getting an error about not being able to connect.

Comp 1 doesn't find Comp 2 as quick it takes about 5 minutes to locate

You are not alone my friend. When both boxes were '98, the Linksys Router worked without a hitch. Now that one box is XP, the '98 machine can read the XP machine instantly, but the XP machine can take MINUTES (often timing out the application trying to do the operation, like Word) to access the '98 machine. I hope someone knows the answer.

Hey,

I appreciate all the work ... I am printing that thread and this one (YIKES). My BEFSR41 is a good enough firewall for my books (after installation, Zonealarm and BlackICE never peeped again), so I don't mind turning it off. I hope that I will understand everything in those threads (which is about 30 pages printed).

Thank you so much.
