Shutdown

This is a discussion about Shutdown in the Customization Tweaking category; When i shutdown my machine it not shuttingdown. What could be the problem?. Last week my system was affected by nimda virus but later it was rectified by norton antivirus. can anyone help me Thanx.

This is normally an ACPI problem.
A bit more information.
Is Advanced power management enable din your bios?
and have you tryed reinstalling it in windows.

When you say not shutting down, do you mean it just hangs when its saving settings / shutting down, or just leaves you with an "it is now safe to run off your computer" screen?
 
Check in your power options that you have APM enabled if you are not using ACPI (which BTW sucks IMO).
 
The other cause may be that you have a rogue app or service that is not shutting down and causing your system to hang.
 
You can use something like X-Teq setup ,or manually change the registry keys to make the timeout shorter, and autokill dead hung apps.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, as you said it just hangs when i click the shutdown in the start menu. Still I've not tried your suggestion. I will let you know the result tomorrow.
