b. Add a space and -w to the end of the Target field, so that it looks like this:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSBin\Sims2.exe" -w
Note: The actual path may vary depending on where the game was installed. Make sure that the -w goes outside the quotation marks and that there is a space between the last quotation mark and the -w.
c. Click OK.
4. Windows may not have Hardware Acceleration enabled.
Click on Start.
Click on Run...
Type dxdiag into the box.
Click OK.
Click on the Display tab.

You may also need to do the following:
Windows 9x:
Click Start, select Settings and choose Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon. The System Properties will open.
Click the Performance tab.
Click the Graphics button. The Advanced Graphics Settings window will appear.
Locate the hardware acceleration adjustment bar. (It will show the words None and Full at each end.)
Move it to Full.
For the new setting to take effect, click OK and restart the computer when prompted.
Launch and use the program.

Locate the hardware acceleration adjustment bar. (It will show the words None and Full at each end.)
Move it to Full
For the new setting to take effect, click Apply and then click OK.
Click OK again to close the Display Properties window.
Launch and use the program.
NOTE: If the issue remains, repeat the above procedure and move the hardware acceleration slide bar to the left one additional position. (Do not select the NONE setting, which is the setting to the far left.)
5. You may have a corrupted install of DirectX
On the Sims 2 CD/DVD in the DirectX Folder.
Copy the dsetup.dll to:
\Windows\System for Windows 9x
or
\Windows\System32 for Windows XP. (WINNT for 2000)
Try reinstalling DirectX from the Sims 2 CD/DVD if this does not work.
If the DirectX install errors out then try copying the DirectX folder to your computer and installing DirectX from there.
6. Q: Why does the game crash at 'Blurring Reality Lines' in the loading screen?
A: This is usually caused by an error with your video card. First, verify that your video card is compatible with The Sims 2. You need (at minimum) a T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.
7. Sims 2 may hav problems with odd refresh rates. Try forcing your display to 60hz. Also disable or uninstall any refresh rate changing programs.
The Sims 2 CD/DVD Problems
Error: "CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulation software and re start the game"
1. Uninstall virtual drive software. (CloneCD/Alcohol/Daemon Tools)
You may also have to delete the registry keys for these programs manually.
2. Patches needed to fix CD/DVD problems:
For Windows 9x - Install the latest DCOM
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp
For Windows XP - Install the Safedisc Patch
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=35831
For Windows 2000 - Install the Safedisc Patch

3. Turn on/off DMA mode on your CD/DVD player.
Windows 9x
1. right mouse click on My Computer and click properties
2. change to the tab "Device Manager"
3. open the device manager and navigate to your DVD/CD-ROM
and click on the "+"
4. right mouse click on your DVD/CD-ROM and choose properties
5. check if you have DMA Transfer Mode (or something like that)
checked and if so uncheck it!
6. click ok and then start the pc new
Windows XP:
1. click on "Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware ->
Device Manager"
2. open the Device Manager and navigate to the entry "ide Controller"
3. right mouse click on the channel on which your DVD/CD-Rom (Primary or Secondary depending on which controller
your CD/DVD-ROM is) and choose properties.
4. Check if your CD/DVD-ROM is running in DMA or PIO mode and change if needed to PIO
5. confirm with ok and restart
If you have to switch to PIO mode to play this game then you may want to try to figure out why you must do so. DMA is much better than PIO.
4. Q: I can't build walls, plant trees, use chairs or tables.
A: Rumour is that this has to do with using a NOCD Patch. Don't do that.
5. Q: The install halts at XX%!
A: This may be because of a bad/dirty CD. Check the CD for scratches or dirt. If none then the CD may be bad. Try the CD in another computer. If you still have the same problem then try the suggestions posted above.
6. Q: I stick the CD in the drive but it can't see it!
A: Verify that your aren't sticking a DVD into a CD drive. If you aren't then try the above suggestions.

I just purchased Sims 2 yesterday with this Pizza Hut Deal. I'm from Australia so my version is the Asia Pacific one.
The problem is that after a complete problem free installation, when I put Disk 1 in it doesn't load properly and just stays as THE SIMS 2 white background screen.
I checked my DxDiag..and it says my AGP Texture Acceleration is 'not available'. It's driving me insane because everything else is top notch!
I've updated everything, but my memory is 248MB Ram whilst the requirement is 256MB but I seriously don't think its a big deal?
Its just I don't know how to enable the AGP Texture Acceleration!
I've literally updated everything..i've read somewhere I have to go into my Pc's BIOS but hopefully you can all come up with a better solution!
Geez I thought i was the only one having problems with Sims 2...
Electronic Arts...!

I have a really strange problem. I get the usual "Directx9.0c graphics adapter was not found in system" error message, but I have had the game running perfectly on a previous install. I just recently uninstalled it for some reason I don't remember but now when I try to play it I get this error message, but I hav made no changes to my system. I have tried all the above posted things to try and fix it but nothing works, I can get it to run in window mode but I'd much rather have full screen for a game I payed $50 for. I have an nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 video card and I know it says it isn't supported, but yet again I had the game running on this card perfectly before. If anyone has the slightest clue as to what I should do please e-mail me, Rynokid5@hotmail.com. Any help is greatly appreciated.

hi all, i installed sims 2 awhile ago and it worked, it lagged, but other than that worked fine. i got sick of the lagging so i stopped playing it for awhile till i got some more ram just a couple days ago, and now it wont work, it loads and everything, but as soon as i try and go into a house it crashes. i have tried reinstalling it but that didnt help. i installed the latest updates from ea, but that didnt help either. now the only things i can think of that i have changed since last time it worked is the extra ram and i installed service pack 2. does sp2 affect sims 2? and if so is there anyway i can get around it wifout uninstalling sp2?
any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

Bad i know but i had a pirate copy of sims 2 to test out then i bought the game and it still shows this problem
~deeca4.tmp i was wondering if there was any way to remove the problem without having to format or anything
i know i can play the game using 2 separate programs... crack.exe and image crack
but i wanna be able to play without them
i have removed it fully using the uninstall then delete 8ab line or then deleted from ea games folder
is it sometype of registry problem that logged into my computer or what
btw i have
radeon 9600xt
1024 gigs of ram
2.0 ghz pentium 4
i have daemon tools the newest version
i had alcohol but unsure how to remove its registry
i have nero but it does not have a virtual drive tab under all programs
thanks if you can answer

Alright...I've read through as much of this as possible, but I've noticed one thing: essentially all the issues here are with display conflicts. The problem my computer is having is with sound instead. I'll try to be as detailed as possible.
I've been using the same copy of Sims 2 for months, now, and have installed it on three different computers. Also, my roommates have installed it on two of theirs, but the problem only lies with my laptop, which is a Dell Latitude C840. It wasn't having any issues at all until I installed the Sims 2 on it a couple of weeks ago, at which point, if I shut the computer down or restarted, the sound card software would immediately stop working. Usually, disabling it (as it was still listed as 'enabled') then re-enabling it would get things to function once more without incident...until I shut down or restarted again. I then completely wiped the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro for my current trip to grad school, and everything was working fine once more...until I reinstalled Sims 2 when the problem started up all over again. This time, disabling and re-enabling did nothing. The sound just wasn't happening. I have since updated all drivers and got all the possible Windows updates save for Service Pack 2, which is next on the list. I can get the sound to work again much the same as before...disabling and re-enabling. The software I'm using for that is Crystal Audio, and it's the most current upgrade for it.
I ran the DirectX diagnostic as suggested, and this is what came up. I apologize for the mass amount of files, but I'm really not sure what anyone needs to look at to figure one thing out from another. Also, this was done when the sound was made to work again:

Hey all, I've never posted in here before but here goes. I've run TS2 and both of the expansions. I usually get crashed out of the game after I've created a sim. Sometimes not. The games crashes at random times. What's wierd is it will play longer when I have a ton of downloads in. But I'm crashing now and I have no downloads.
I have no issues with directx and I get green checkmarks on everything in EAsy info.
I'm running an AMD athlon 2500+, 1gig RAM, ATI Raedon 9800 pro with 128 RAM, sound is NVidea nForce,
I close all background tasks and set my screen to 800 x 600 in 16bit with a refresh rate of 60. I haven't seen anyone come up with a solution for this in any other threads.
I read in one solution for University is to delete the groups.cache file. I have tried this with nightlife but it comes back and I'm still crashing. Any help would be gratefully received.bold text

hi, i'm having an issue installing sims 2 onto my laptop, i've checked, double checked, and triple checked all of my system settings and i'm almost positive i have everything i need...
however, i can install disks 1 and 2 but when i put in disk 3 it never picks it up. my cd drive just keeps making this constant clicking for a long time and then an error comes up on the screen saying there was a problem downloading "file whatever" and so i take out the disk and gently clean it w/ a cloth until it's spotless, and then i put it in and it doesn't work.
then, last night i tried to copy the files directly to the hard drive...and disk 3 DID load and copy to it, but then i go to autorun on disk 1 and it just tells me to re-do the entire installation.
ok, so after this, i completely uninstalled everything, and i tried the whole installation over again, thinking that disk 3 would finally download. first 2 disks download fine, and then i put in disk 3 and the exact same thing happened, and has been happening the last hundred times i've tried this.
Help would be very much appreciated. thanks

Hi,
Problem: Well this part is very simple... I double click the icon to start the sims 2 and it gives me the standard win2k this program just crashed and burned program error message. Nothing about the video card, directX or anything useful for that matter and it does not even load the splash screen. If I insert the CD which should auto-run the game I get the splash screen and no error message but the game never loads. I checked ATI's site and they say the 7200 has T&L support so I do not think the CPU speed is a problem. Also, the video card has 64mb of RAM and my system has a GIG which makes this a real wtf is wrong sort of problem.
Here are my specs:
Processor AMD Athlon XP/MP/4 1667MHz
Display Card ATI RADEON 7200 Series
Memory 1024MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000
Free Disk Space 48.63GB
Display Card Memory 64MB
Display Driver Version 6.14.10.6583
DirectX Version 9.0c
Optical Drive CD/DVD
Sound Card C-Media Wave Device
Thanks for any help in advance,
Brann
