sims 2 won't install

I have a Dell with Windows XP. When I insert the sims 2 my computer doesn't recognize the CD. When I use run to try to open the program, my computer says please install a disk. I tried to turn off my antivirus program but there was no change.

Isn't the Sims 2 a DVD? Are you putting a DVD into your CD drive?

Yea i realized that was the problem. Is there anything I can do to make the DVD run or do I have to buy another version of the game?
