Slow Internet with IE using Windows 2003

This is a discussion about Slow Internet with IE using Windows 2003 in the Windows Software category; Here is the problem with a fresh install of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. When a NEW IE browser window is opened it takes up to 1 min for it to find the URL. Even if I just visted it. After the browser hits that first page everything is back to normal and I can browse at normal speed.

Go to Tools Menu => Internet Options => Connections Tab => LAN Settings and uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings" (if its checked). Its probably trying to find a proxy server on your network.

Actually, IE in Windows Server 2003 in it's default configuration is pretty secure. Builds after RC2 included the IE hardening pack, which substantially improves browser security.

That being said, from a Phoenix, err, Mozilla Firebird user.
