Slow logons, XP pro to 2000 server

I read that there is a lot of unneccesary comms between an XP PC and the server during login and that there were ways to speed it up, but I lost my hard copy of the instructions and can't remember where I got them from.

Are you running DNS on your server?

OP
No local DNS setup, see my other thread about my poor DNS skills. Our server just points to external DNS servers which causes huge login problems when we lose our connection to them.

I know I need local DNS but don't know how to implement it.
