heyyy everyone,

i am trying to set up a Software update Services Server.
The thing is dat it has worked only now it doesnt anymore.
IIS didnt work anymore couldnt start its services so i just reinstalled IIS and SUS. but now it doesnt work. after a while searching why i know now that the problem is that the self extractor (Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor SFX CAB) doesnt extract itself runs a script and stops. normally it extract itself runs a few scripts then starts the setup. i installed by extracting it mannually cause of that. i think thats the reason it doenst work.
Why doesnt it start the setup anymore i had that b4 at home but that wasnt really a prob.

specs

w2k server
2x p pro 200 mhz
1Gb mem
compaq proliant 6500

Have you checked the Event Viewer for error and warning entries?

What happens if you run the extracted MSI directly? Does anything relating to the SUS setup appear? If not, then try downloading the self extractor again and re-extracting the MSI. I've installed SUS successfully by running the MSI directly, so the script not running isn't a problem. The script is only there for upgrading an existing SUS server to SP1.

Once you've got SUS working, use the latest version of MBSA to check the security of the server.
