I had hoped that things would be different with windows xp, but unfortunately they are still the same. . . . does anyone have an idea, if there is something like quickres from the old powertoys is floating around for xp?.

Entech also has a cool quickres-like util called multires. That's what I use.
freebie called HobRes is nice.
multires is like quick res and it works great.
