Sound dropping out in game videos with VIA AC'97?

This is a discussion about Sound dropping out in game videos with VIA AC'97? in the Windows Games category; I have noticed laately that when a game starts its opening video the sound will simple start crackling and fade out. Sorry if this has been covered before, but does anyone know a fix for this? I have tried different drivers.

I have noticed laately that when a game starts its opening video the sound will simple start crackling and fade out. Sorry if this has been covered before, but does anyone know a fix for this? I have tried different drivers. I have onboard VIA AC'97 sound. This is very irritating. I would buy a new sound card but this onboard souindchip seems to give other sound cards a fit...even if I turn it off. So I am stuck with onboard sound until I get a new board without sound. Thanks.

VIA posted a patch for the onboard audio controller a while back. Did you try that yet?
