so I have quite a problem on my hands.
My computer recently caught the Brav sentry trojan. i downloaded the program to find, uninstall, and delete the program, but at reboot, the computer blue screened me with
STOP: c000021a (fatal system error)
the system has been shut down.
my first reaction was to panic, but instead I tried to calmy repair it, I now know i shouldntve. Im a HORRIBLE nooB, and I dont knowhow to access anything correctly.

I ran the system recovery and nothing happenned. so I decided to try and use the instal. disc to repair it. ( I never tried to boot in safe mode before doing this.like i said nooB) so now, it tries to load a screen that says " preparing to reinstall " then goes black for 7 seconds then flashes the infamous blue screen. and when I try to run any of the safe modes, and before xp fully loads, it says installation cannot be completed in safe mode, click ok to restart.

I would just install a fresh copy , but there are pics of my passed mother and grandmother on there that I cant just get again. I know this is my fault but if you can PLEASE DO.

Thanks,
-nick-

hmmmm I cant really give you any tech information about your problem. But i would not worry to much about the comp, and focus more on those pictures, if they are very very important too you i would not touch the comp again... you may have to wipe your comp and the only way i can think of to save those pics is to take it too a spe[censored]t and have them recover them. About you comp problem, I dont want to tell you anything to in detail cause i am not all that familiar with the inner workings of a comp, But i know recently i have seen more and more trjans are fakers, or they trick you into think there is somthing wrong with your comp... Like i got a malware that said i had a fatal system error, begining dump of pycical memory. Turns out it was just an anooying virus. Is there any icon or anything at all asking you to buy somthing or purches somthing to fix your issue. If you comp isnt working or booting up at all... Ummm i have no idea... But i know from experience that those picture can be priceless, and my mother had a very expensive Mac and it died on us, We were not able to save the pictures, the comp guy at the store said everything was gone... So... I would wait for more experianced people to post on your problem, I am just posting to maybe give you someinsite into the issue.

PS I have no idea what i am talking about so... dont tkae my advice LOL!

Sometimes it's easier to purchase a new HD as these devices are now dirt cheap and install a new copy of your OS from the install media onto this new drive.

Be sure to remove the old HD first before doing this !!!

Once you have the new OS installed, be sure to first get the latest OS patches and updates, install Anti everything on it, both spyware and virus apps.

I like Spybot - Search and Destroy, AdAware PE, AVG Anti-Spyware/Virus and even the Microsoft Windows Defender is a nice app to use.

Once this has been done then get an external enclosure for your original HD, either IDE or SATA depending on the type of drive it is and connect this up to a free USB port and access your files you want to recover.

After doing this you should archive your data to an optical disc and then reformat that external drive.

Now you have an external and portable storage device

OP
thanks, I might try that with the hard drive, i need a bigger one anyways, the important thing is the pics, id rather create an external HDD than pay someone for the same price to fix it, and come out with what I had before thats like throwing money away.

but i ask this, is there just a way to delete the current program wanting to re install xp? I cant get windows to boot but I can open the system root c:\windows\> what can I do until I can get a new HDD?
