strange problem

When i right click on a directory and try to look at properties or open the 'sharing' option, nothing happens. the options are listed, but clicking them has no effect. Running win 2k, loaded win2k professional components recently and fear that they may have hosed my setup.

I can click properties on some files and get the dialog box, but not top level directories.

any suggestions or commeserations would be helpful.

Was this an upgrade from a previous version of windows? I would try to Re-install windows over itself, or, if you don't have any vital info on the drive, format and do a fresh install. There is nothing sweeter than a crisp new install. A whole new day!!

Do you have a functional NIC (network card) installed and working under windows 2000? If so, then maybe you should format/re-install. Otherwise, it may be your problem. Also, some network cards act funny under windows 2000. The BEST network cards are made by 3COM and they're pretty affordable too!

good luck!
