Are you running any programs that detect your internet connection, or try to make a connection as soon as you get on? For example, ICQ and Getright both monitor your internet connectivity. If you are running a program like this, try disabling it, and see if the problem then goes away.

i have windows messenger in the background and norton anti-virus.
i know the messenger tries to log on as soon as there is a connection.
i will disable it from running when windows starts and see what happens.
