Terminal Services
My buddy and I are setting up a server for our Computer Science 397 class. . . and we had a choice of OSs to use: Novell, Linux, or any of the WINNT OSs. . . well, in an effort to make our project as painless as possible, we went with Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

We figured it's our chance to get to know the OS since neither of us will ever be willing or able to spend $3,000 for a copy of our own.
Anyways, my question is about Terminal Services. This seems like a very interesting feature of the OS. Apparently, you can run it on the server and be able to install the client on all the workstation PCs.. that way when the client pcs are running programs, it's all happening on the server.... with a Win2k interface even if on a 9x/nt4 machine.
My question is... can you set it up so that it's the other way around? Can you access any of your client PCs via Terminal Services on your server like you can access your server from a workstation?

Actually you can, but that is not the point of Terminal Services. It is used to provide access to applications from thin clients that don't have the hardware resources to run the apps themselves.
You need multiple servers to play with that and it's hell on the network. We hooked up 15 computers running advanced server and installed terminal server on all of them and ran the clients on all of them at the same time.
Made for an interesting afternoon to say the least. We could only access the servers using administrative accounts and you don't want anybody using the TS client with an admin account. Trust me on that one ;(

I'm having all kinds of problems right now getting logged onto the server from the client. I then noticed (on the server), a Terminal Services Licensing option. Do I have to purchase licenses for each computer that connects via terminal services?
I sure hope not, that would pretty much f*** up my project.
