Text entry fields freezing up IE5.5

Konnichi wa, minna-san So here I am with my first foray into the world of Windows 2000 and I'm loving every minute of it. As a veteran of many Win98SE battles, Win2k looks like nirvana. My SCSI and DV setups are running well now and doing NLE is smoother than I've ever seen.

So here I am with my first foray into the world of Windows 2000 and I'm loving every minute of it. As a veteran of many Win98SE battles, Win2k looks like nirvana. My SCSI and DV setups are running well now and doing NLE is smoother than I've ever seen...however (isn't there always a "however" when it comes to MS OSs? ) I've hit this one problem which makes internet usage somewhat slow

When entering text into a field, say for a search or for a forum post, I complete the entry and then submit it or activate a checkbox on the same page...IE5.5 will simply freeze. GIF animations, Flash & Java apps and even the happy spinning globe logo will stop dead in their tracks. 8) This gets better...I wait about 30-45 seconds and IE suddenly revives, completing the task I set before it.

When IE freezes, I've checked the following:
- Except for small spike when I enter the text, CPU usage is 99% idle
- Task Manager shows IE as not responding
- No intranet or internet activity at all when text entry is submitted.
- Pingable during freeze (only tested from within LAN)
- Opening other instances of IE or even Opera during freeze and surfin'net is fine.
- Opera 5.01 (on which I am writing this now) does not suffer this problem.
- Firewall opened or closed - still the same freeze.

Here's an InfoDump for you
- Windows 2000 (fresh install)
- Service Pack 2 (immediately afterwards)
- IE 5.5 (updated from IE5.01 and with latest security patches)
- Zonealarm Pro 2.6.82 (software firewall)
- LAN and WAN routing via Netgear RT314

Starting to look like IE or something in the Win2k settings? I'm too much of a Win2k newbie to be certain.
