Hello all!
This is my first post here and already I think I´m gonna give you a little headache
The game starts out fine, and after a while playing it just freezes the whole computer. I installed the patch. I already tried up[censored] my video and sound drivers, I tried reinstalling the game, I updated my chipset driver as well, nothing works! I even tried rolling back to an older video driver, but no luck. It used to work fine though. I had a virus infestation, so I cleaned up with Norton antivirus, Spybot, Ad-Aware and Hijack this. I dunno if it could be related.
I run an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0Ghz with 512m RAM and an ATI Radeon 9800 SE AGP with 128m on 1024x768 resolution, and a Realtek AC´97 sound device.
ANY help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. I´m about to format and start all over! that´s just how desperate I am.
Thanks!

Why does the game crash at 'Blurring Reality Lines' in the loading screen?
Question
Why does the game crash at 'Blurring Reality Lines' in the loading screen?
Answer
This is usually caused by an error with your video card. First, verify that your video card is compatible with The Sims 2. You need (at minimum) a T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.
The supported video cards are:

I am having the common problem with the Direct X 9.0 thing with The Sims 2. I get a box that says that that it cant be supported and the program will now terminate.
I have a processor of 1133 MHz, and 496 MB of RAM running on WinXP. And as of this time I have: S3 Graphics Twister HP with a memory of 16.o MB. Now I am curious...if I just download a different driver that supports Direct X 9.0, will that solve the problem (even though I dont have that type to begin with), or do I have to get a new card and then install a new driver to go with it?
Any computer people know if that will work?
The game was enough already, and I dont want to buy a new card just for that.
Do I already have to have a certain driver like Nividia, or Intel, or can I just download them?
Please get back if you have some answers. Thanks.

I am not familiar enough with those Intel Integrated graphics and how well they run the games that support the latest hardware but my feeling is it's not supported as well. try running the DXdiagnostic tool mentioned above and run the tests.
Steve,
Sorry to be thick - I have run DXDiag - is that what you mean?

I note the minimum requirement for this game is 32 meg graphics card memory. Your card obviously shares system memory (ie you have 512 and it is using 16 = 496). It is usually possible to set the amount of shared graphics memory in the BIOS - press delete or whatever key at startup to enter the BIOS and change the shared memory to 32 or 64 megs.
Having said that, I imagine the vast majority of these problems would be solved by up[censored] your videocard drivers. Go start - run - and type 'dxdiag' : this should open the direct x diagnostic utility. On the first page it will tell you what version of direct x you have. On the third tab labelled 'display' it will tell you if direct 3d acceleration etc are enabled. They obviously need to be for this game. Run the tests. If there is some problem with DirectX9 functionality in the graphics card driver it should tell you down the bottom.
Regardless, ensure you have the latest drivers for the card in your system. They could be from your system manufacturer, but quite often the best ones are generic drivers from your chipset manufacturer (in this case S3 - ie s3graphics.com)
Go control panel- display - settings - advanced - adaptor- properties - driver - driver details: note the driver version. Install whatever driver you can find on the web, and ensure it is a later version.
Good luck

and I guess it did pass the tests? I was just wondering if you know it the Intel graphic supports T&L? as I have no idea if it does or not.

after you bring up the diagnostic tool clic on the display tab along the top and you will see the option to test direct draw and direct 3d clic those and let each test run.
run that first just to see. as for a new video card there are lots of choices but you can always check out this chart

okay i did the tests and u were right it passes all but the 9 one.. would i be safe if i just bought a new computer? I've been looking to do that anyway. Would that drive support the game? thanks so much for your help.

Well if you want to do a complete upgrade right now then go for it but if you just want to do the card for now get something along the lines of an ATI X800 pro or Nvidia Geforce FX series then you can upgrade the rest of the system after. It really depends on how much you want to spend because there are cards that are better then the X800 pro but if your gonna spend alot look at a complete upgrade.
If you go with ATI don't get a card that ends with SE (they tend to be stripped down versions so just don't bother with them)
Your system could use an upgrade but doesn't necessarily NEED an update so you could stretch it out a bit more by getting a really good video card now and then when you upgrade the rest just keep the card and put it in with the new parts.

I recently got the Sims 2, and it installed fine the game started fine, but it crashes... alot hehe... every... i'd say 15mins of playing my game flips to a pure blue screen (the type NT usualyl gives with an error message in the upper left, But with no error message at all) and locks like that for hours or until i hit my reset button. Also as a side note while it's locked up my Harddrive light is on solid, but i assume this is just windows dumping my ram to HD, as the Disk to Ram program autoruns in the background when i restart. Forgot it's name something like disksave or something. ohh well

Athlon 2500+ Barton
Abit NF7-s
Radeon 9700 Pro 128 (Drivers are new as of about 3-4 weeks ago)

No other game seem to cause this problem, play Halif-Life 2, Neverwinter Nights, Everquest 2, along with various other games all work perfectly fine..
Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated,

I have a problem with the sims 2; When I start the game everything is oke, but after a while of playing (sometimes 5 seconds, other times 20 minutes) the game freezes, after a few seconds the mouse dissapears and even ctrl+alt+del doesn't do anything, the only solution is cutting the power off.
The error message says that the problem is Radeon IGP 320M, so now my question is, does anyone know how to fix the problem? Should I download some sort of newer version? Or is something else the problem?

hello! For all you people out there who got that annoying message while trying to download sims (the directX compatible one) i have MY solution. WELL it's not a solution but someone was there to explain it to me in english.
It kinda annoys me.. and i wont get to play until i have about 150 bucks $$
But i got a professional to look at my computer because i was soo upset that i couldnt play ... and he told me that the game is asking for a new video card or what not. Well for some people that was pretty obvious..but i'm no computer expert so i had no idea :S lol
Yes.. it's a shame that no one (we some people) are unable to play the sims 2
I'm very upset and i'm sure you all are.. this damn "card" is going to cost me a fortune..

Try upgrading your video card drivers. It's doubtful that will help you tho since the problem you are experiencing seems like a heat issue to me.

It's possible that it is a bad dic. Check the CD for scratches or dirt. If none and you still have the same problem, then copy all of the game CD's to the hard drive and install the game from there. If you still can't copy the file then either the CD drive is dirty or you have a bad CD.
